A POKER player from Appleton Thorn has won big at an international tournament in Las Vegas.

Emily Glancy has scooped $2,500 after finishing in second place at the World League Poker Championships.

She competed alongside 30 other Redtooth Poker masterminds as a part of Team GB as they faced off with more than 200 players from the USA and Canada for a £25,000 prize pot.

The Appleton Thorn resident said: “This experience has been totally and utterly brilliant – I still can’t believe that it has happened to me.

“I used to play poker in my local pub and go to the casino a few times a week before joining the Redtooth league.

“Now I feel like I’m part of the Redtooth family – everyone is so friendly and welcoming.

“When I started playing poker I never thought I would have the opportunity to go to Las Vegas – I had never been abroad on my own before, so I was hesitant at first but knew this was an opportunity I couldn’t miss.

“I felt like I was having an out of body experience – it was so surreal having hundreds of people watching and filming.

“I loved representing Great Britain with Redtooth and if the opportunity came along next year I would do it all again.”
