A BABY born 11 weeks early weighing just two pounds has made her way home from hospital.

Little Beatrix Myhill was born a day short of 29 weeks at Warrington Hospital on Thursday, August 10 - months before her due date of October 27.

Now mum Alex has shared her experiences of her first-born child's arrival in the world to mark World Prematurity Day.

The 36-year-old was on holiday in Denmark when she began to suffer pain in her sternum, migraines and vomiting before being taken to the hospital the day after returning the the UK.

She spent a number of days in hospital before being told she was ready for discharge.

Alex said: "That night the pain came back again worse than it had ever been before.

"Fortunately I was in a side room away from the ward because I wouldn't have given anyone any peace that night."

Doctors discovered that her pain was being caused by a life-threatening liver disorder called HELLP syndrome, and with the condition having a high mortality rate for both mum and baby it was decided that Alex needed to have a Caesarian section under general anaesthetic.

She said: "Obviously, it's always scary going into surgery - especially when you know you're going to have a 29-week-old baby - but there was no other option, so you've kind of got to come to terms with it.

"I got wheeled down to theatre and that was it - she arrived.

"They put me in intensive care for a night as a precaution and I didn't see her until the next day, then I was recovering on the ward for three days before I got discharged.

"It was difficult going home from hospital without her because it wasn't what we had expected or planned, but obviously it was the best place for her."

Beatrix was finally able to return home to Newton-le-Willows at the end of October.

Alex added: "I can't commend the staff enough for how amazing they were with everything - they did everything they could.

"From the beginning when the ambulance turned up right through to today there is nobody whose praises I can't sing highly enough.

"The midwives, the nurses and the doctors were all amazing from start to finish."
