STUDENTS at St Gregory’s High School found inspiration in Viola Beach’s song Boys That Sing as they marked a week of activities to tackle bullying and hate crime.
Youngsters said former pupil and drummer for the band Jack Dakin embodied the friendship, kindness and sense of fun that they strive for.
As part of anti-bullying week the school has welcomed guests including Mayor Cllr Les Morgan, MP Faisal Rashid and members of the River Reeves Foundation to help them celebrate diversity.
Pupils have also been doing protest walks through the community to share their message against hate crime and visiting primary schools to speak to youngsters about the importance of individuality.
Year 10 Lois Dewhirst and school chaplain Nathan Whitlow will perform an acoustic version of Boys That Sing adapted to include anti-bullying lyrics written by year eight students.
And the event will finish with a screening of Coldplay’s tribute to Viola Beach at Glastonbury Festival, which the school said was an inspirational reflection of how far the band’s footprint has travelled.
