A VIGILANTE street cleaner has helped to fine a litterbug who threw fast food wrappers from his car after finding a receipt in the culprit’s takeaway bag.
The Appleton resident, fed up of passing drivers dropping litter near to his house, found the discarded bag of food – including a receipt that showed where and when the litterer had bought his takeaway – and reported it to Warrington Borough Council.
Environmental crime officers were able to identify the culprit from CCTV at the popular fast food chain on Thursday, October 5.
A man from Knutsford was last week fined £50 for littering in connection with the incident.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, Warrington Borough Council’s executive board member for environmental and public protection, said: “This was excellent work by our environmental crime team, and I hope this will act as a deterrent to people who think they can treat our borough like a dustbin.
“It doesn’t take much effort for people to dispose of their rubbish in a considerate manner.
“If we all took the time to do this it would help make life better for everyone.”
