THE top five hotspots for anti-social behaviour in Warrington have been revealed with the highest number of reports recorded in Bewsey and Whitecross.

Data requested under a Freedom of Information Act by the Warrington Guardian has uncovered figures documenting the areas where police received the most reports for this type of criminal activity between July 6, 2016, and July 5, 2017.

The highest ward area for anti-social behaviour reports was listed as Bewsey and Whitecross, followed by Warrington town centre, Poplars and Hulme, Whittle Hall and Fairfield and Howley.

Sgt Mark Spaven, who covers policing in Bewsey and Whitecross, said officers from Warrington Police Station will pro-actively tackle the issue of anti-social behaviour in the community with high-visibility patrols.

This includes PCSOs visiting schools to engage and educate young people and advise them on the consequences of anti-social behaviour on individuals and their community..

He said: “Beat managers and PCSOs are engaging with residents and being visible in the community.

“We will take positive and proportionate action against anyone identified causing this type of behaviour.

“We are committed to reducing the number of incidents and providing an effective response to victims.

“We will be a continued visible presence in the local community over the Halloween and bonfire period and encourage residents to report any incidents of ASB in your area.”

Between July 6, 2016, to July 5, 2017, Cheshire Constabulary received 6,725 reports linked to anti-social behaviour across Warrington.

This figure has dropped over the past five years from 9,012 during July 6, 2012, to July 5, 2013.

In 2013 to 2014, there were 8,762 reports while in 2015 to 2016 there were 7,791 recorded incidents.
Anti-social behaviour can include vandalism, buying drugs and drinking on the street, threatening or drunken behaviour or off road motor bikes.

Earlier this year, many readers got in touch to share their experience of anti-social behaviour after reading the story of Garry Newlove who was murdered by a gang of youths outside his home in Fearnhead 10 years ago.

Problems arising from anti-social behaviour had been reported in the area around the time of the dad-of-three’s tragic death in front of his family.
