WORK is now under way on the development of 66 new homes on the site of a former school in Birchwood.
The development on Admirals Road is the first in a series of new rental properties from Nuvu Living, who previously built the Church Street development comprising of 106 homes near the town centre.
Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee granted planning permission for the scheme on the site of St Oliver Plunkett Catholic Primary School, which closed in 2003, during a Town Hall meeting in May.
The decision was made after hearing representations from Birchwood Town Council and Birchwood ward councillor Russ Bowden, as well as Wigan-based applicant MCI Developments.
The committee passed the scheme on the basis that a zebra crossing be implemented on Admirals Road.
The new Birchwood development will comprise of two and three-bedroom homes for private rent and a number for shared ownership homes by Nuvu Living, which is a Your Housing Group company.
The first phase of homes is anticipated to be completed and ready to rent from early 2018.
The properties are being constructed by MCI Developments Limited in partnership with Warrington Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
