ON Tuesday morning last week, I left my home in Great Sankey to travel the two and a bit miles to work, a journey that takes me across Bridge Foot.
As usual I left myself 45 minutes for the trip (which in reality should only take 15 minutes at the most).
How misplaced was my optimism?
An hour-and-a-half later I walked into work.
I’m told the horrendous traffic was due to issues with one of the swing bridges over the ship canal – you can’t beat 18th century technology taking its revenge on 21st century traffic.
As far as I’m concerned, the sooner they build the Western Link – complete with the high-level bridge over the canal – the better.
I’m just sad they can’t start work on it next week.
