A SALON in Orford is offering free haircuts to homeless people to mark its first birthday.

Kayleigh Louise Hair and Beauty Salon on Martin Avenue will throw its doors open to the town's homeless next month in order to offer them a wash, cut and blow dry free of charge.

Clients of the hairdressers are also being asked to donate warm clothing that can be given out to those in need on the day.

Salon owner Kayleigh Pearce said: "We're looking to create a drop-off point for the homeless people and then to give them free haircuts.

"We're also looking for our clients to come and drop off warm clothing to give them on the day as well.

"Hopefully it will help them a lot, because we just want to give something back to the community.

The day of free cuts and washes for homeless people, which takes place between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday, November 4, will be held as the Kayleigh Louise Hair and Beauty Salon marks a year since it first opened.

Free tea and biscuits will also be given to the homeless on the day, with the salon hoping to enlist a taxi firm to provide lifts from the town centre.

Any leftover clothing not handed out on the day will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Kayleigh added: "One of the girls at the salon said that we should do something to help the homeless, so we decided to do it to mark our first year of opening.

"The first year has gone too fast but the business has done really well during that time.

"It started off as just me, but I've now got four other girls working with me now as well."
