RESIDENTS are being urged to submit their views on proposed boundary changes that 'will rewrite the political map' and reduce the number of MPs.

The Boundary Commission for England (BCE) is asking the public for their views on revised proposals for constituency boundaries.

Following a decision by Parliament to reduce the number of constituencies in the UK to 600 from 650, the BCE is conducting a third and final consultation to 'inform the review' of all constituencies in the country.

Changes to Warrington North and South boundaries affecting Latchford have been put forward as part of the review.

If brought in, the move would see voters in Latchford have their say in Warrington North rather than Warrington South in the future.

Proposals and maps for the nine English regions, including the north west, have been published by the BCE and an eight-week public consultation period is now open until December 11.

The consultation is the final time residents will have a chance to give the BCE their views on the proposed changes before the commission's final recommendations are taken to Parliament in September 2018.

Council chief executive Steven Broomhead said: "The boundary changes across the country will rewrite the political map and will reduce the number of MPs overall.

"The number of constituencies in the north west must reduce from 75 to 68 and there could be a potential impact on Warrington.

"Therefore, it is important that the people of Warrington understand what the changes are and use their knowledge to help inform the recommendations."
