DETECTIVES hunting a thief who stole a charity box from Warrington Bank Quay station have identified a man in connection with the incident.

Investigations are ongoing into the theft on October 12 at 3.10pm in the waiting room on platform two.

Police say a man entered the room and sat down next to the window where the charity box was chained to a radiator.

He untied the chain and placed the box in his rucksack before catching the 3.18pm train to Manchester.

He left the train at Earlestown before boarding the 3.48pm service to Liverpool.

Officers had released a photograph of a man wanted in connection with the incident. This has now been removed at the request of British Transport Police.

A spokesman said: "We are no longer appealing for information to identify a man shown in CCTV images in relation to the theft of a charity box at Warrington Bank Quay station.

"An appeal for information was issued this week, and since then a 19- year-old man from the Warrington area has been identified to police and will be interviewed in due course.

"Thank you to the media and public for your assistance."
