A GROUP of care workers from Winwick are gearing up for a gruelling charity mission.

Colleagues from St Oswald’s care home on Golborne Road will be taking part in a cycle relay challenge along a route from the highlands to the south coast of England and ending in Jersey to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

The route, which covers more than 2,000 miles, runs from Inverness to Bournemouth before finishing in St Brelade on Jersey.

The staff from the care home, which is run by brighterkind, are set to ride from Warrington to Charlotte House in Wirral on Wednesday.

At the end of each stage they will hand over the team’s mascot Buddy Bear to be taken on the next stage.

The mission started in Inverness at the start of October and the aim is to finish on November 17 raising a minimum of £17,500.

Donna Crann, regional manager, said: “There has been amazing encouragement and support from colleagues, residents in our care homes and their relatives.

"People from every one of our homes have volunteered to get into the saddle and take part."

More than 150 colleagues from care homes are taking part.
Michelle Wilson, regional Operations Director, added: "The project is called Wishing Wheels.

"We have a wishing well scheme, which aims to make it possible for residents to experience something they have long wanted to try or be taken somewhere they want to visit.

"The cycle challenge is to raise money to help make some children’s wishes come true."
