POLLING stations in the town are open for four elections today, Thursday.

A by-election for the Chapelford and Old Hall borough council seat is being held after Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid stepped down from his council position following his shock General Election win in June.

Liberal Democrat Allan Bird, the Green Party's Steph Davies, Conservative Phil Hayward, Labour's Paul Warburton and UKIP's Ian Wilson will battle it out.

Polls will also take place for three parish council positions.

Liberal Democrat Mr Bird, Conservative Mr Hayward, the Green Party's Mike Wass and Labour's Sarah Williamson will face off in the election for a seat on Great Sankey Parish Council in the central ward.

The Green Party's Ms Davies, Conservative Mike Foxall, Labour's Kenneth Halliday and Liberal Democrat David Knapp will go against each other in the race for a seat on Great Sankey Parish Council in the south ward.

And Joseph Doherty, Conservative Phil Marshall and the Green Party's Lyndsay McAteer will battle for a seat on Stretton Parish Council.

Polling stations for each of the elections will be open from 7am to 10pm.

The council previously confirmed around £17,000 will be spent on the Chapelford and Old Hall by-election.

Polling stations for the Chapelford and Old hall by-election are:

•          St Philip’s Primary School in Westbrook

•          Chapelford Primary School in Great Sankey

•          Bewsey Barns Community Centre in Old Hall

•          Westbrook Old Hall Primary School in Old Hall

Polling stations for the central ward seat on Great Sankey Parish Council are:

•          St Philips Primary School in Westbrook

•          Chapelford Primary School in Great Sankey

•          Bewsey Barns Community Centre in Old Hall

Polling stations for the Great Sankey Parish Council – South Ward are:

•          Great Sankey Primary School

•          Hood Manor Community Centre

•          David Lloyd Tennis Centre

•          Kings Community Centre

•          Great Sankey Children’s Centre

The polling station for the Stretton Parish Council election is at St Matthew's Church Hall in Stretton.
