A FAMILY-of-three, including a six-month-old baby, have spoken about how their lives have been transformed after receiving treatments for back problems.

Couple Sam and Daniel Jones, as well as their six-month-old daughter Mollie, have all recently had back ailments treated at the Alba Spinal Health Centre on Chester Road.

Sam, 26, had been suffering from chronic back pain for a decade before visiting the chiropractors, while husband Daniel – a former BMX rider and American footballer – has been receiving treatment since a car accident exacerbated old sports injuries.

Chiropractor Jemma Bransby-Firth has also tended to little Mollie after she was born by emergency caesarean.

Mum Sam said: “I’d been in chronic pain for 10 years and felt like a 100-year-old woman – painkillers and physio had done nothing to help.

“I found out I was pregnant a few days before my first appointment with Jemma, but she was still able to start treating me and now I’ve never been in a better place with my back.

“Daniel has a monthly adjustment and says he couldn’t be without it.

“After Mollie was delivered by emergency caesarean, Jemma checked her over as well.

“We are so thankful for what Jemma has done for our entire family.”

Mum-of-two Jemma, whose practice has been recognised by the Royal College of Chiropractors, has shared her top tips for taking care of the spine to mark Back Care Awareness Week.

Sitting for long periods of time, repetitive lifting and poor posture are some of the top causes of back pain.

Jemma said: “Anything you do in your day to day life can exacerbate lower back pain, which is the second biggest reason for sick leave in the UK.

“The good news is that there are lots of ways to reduce the risk and to manage the pain, such as moving off the sofa or out of your officer chair for two minutes every hour.

“Sleeping on your side in a foetal position is the least stressful position for your back.

“Find a form of exercise you enjoy and do it regularly – even if that’s walking the dog.

“Correct lifting is essential – keep the item close to your body, you back straight and bend your knees.

“Finally, my top tip is to see a chiropractor for a check-up and, if necessary, any adjustments so that you can continue to enjoy sports, playing with the kids or going on holiday.”
