PETE Waterman is set to auction off a rare ‘ghost’ Jaguar that was thought to be lost for 30 years.
Music producer Waterman, who lives in Daresbury, will sell ‘one of the rarest Jaguar E-types ever built’ with no reserve during the auction in November.
Referred to as a ‘ghost car’ as it was presumed lost for 30 years, the Jaguar has been in Waterman’s private collection since the late 1980s.
The vehicle has a number of unique features, with it being the first left-hand drive Series 3 four-seater made and the only example fitted with a 4.2l XK engine.
It will be auctioned at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford on Wednesday, November 15.
Damian Jones, head of sales at auctioneers H&H Classics, said: “This car is rarer than any other E-type variant including the fabled Lightweight.
“Marque authorities suggest that just four or six Series 3 cars were factory-fitted with XK DOHC 4.2l engines – these were never made available to the general public.”
