THE Warrington Guardian's politics reporter Aran Dhillon has been shortlisted for a top national award alongside journalists from the BBC and The Independent.

Our 25-year-old colleague was named a finalist in the Asian Media Awards young journalist of the year category at the ITV London Studios yesterday.

The judges were impressed by Aran's coverage of the General Election in June and MP Faisal Rashid's shock victory, as well as his work on the Hillsborough disaster court case and the town's show of solidarity against terrorism after the Manchester attack.

Aran, who has been part of the Warrington Guardian team for more than three years, also passed the challenging NQJ exams to become a senior journalist at the end of last year.

He is now invited to attend a glittering ceremony at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on October 25 where the winners will be announced.

Previous nominees include Channel 4's Krishnan Guru-Murthy, broadcaster Mehdi Hasan and the BBC's Anita Anand.
