A MUM-OF-TWO was rendered speechless after returning home to discover plaster had been ripped from the back of her house.

Julie Griffiths was left in a state of disbelief after part of the rendering had been removed from the back of her semi-detached house on Weymouth Road in Burtonwood yesterday, Tuesday.

The workmen then plastered over the back wall but the couple had not requested or agreed to any building work.

The 53-year-old, who has lived in the property with her husband for 22 years, said: "It was my husband who discovered it.

"He came in from work and came into the house and he discovered someone had been into the back of the property.

"He went to turn the TV on and it wasn't working because of the damage to the electrics."

When Julie arrived home at around 5.30pm, she was shocked to discover the extent of the damage.

Neighbours reported seeing around eight workmen arrive at the property at 9am.

At around 4pm, neighbours reported hearing the workers, who spoke with a Liverpool accent, shouting to quickly pack up the scaffolding and their tools and leave.

"I just can't understand how somebody can just come onto the property and start doing this type of damage," she said.

"We formed the opinion – based on what our neighbours have seen and heard – that they realised they were at the wrong property and quickly packed up and left."

The incident has been reported to the police.

Julie has also already had to pay £200 as an excess fee to her insurers but it has not been confirmed whether they will be able to pay out.

It is believed it could cost up to £2,000 to repair the damage.

She said: "When I spoke to the insurers I did get upset.

"We have reported it to the police and they have filed it as criminal damage and I reiterated the point that we were in work and came home – we did not ask for this.

"They have defaced our property without our knowledge or permission.

"I've not been off the phone since it happened. It has been a crazy 24 hours."

Julie was also forced to take the day off work to see if the workmen returned today, Wednesday, but there has been no sign of the company.

The couple has issued a plea for anyone with information to come forward as they have no idea of the identities of the workmen or the company behind it.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information can call Cheshire Police on 101 citing incident 769 of September 19.
