WAS disgusted to read Cheshire Police are not taking action to the owner of the Rottweiler that attacked a Jack Russell just because he is not a banned breed (Guardian, September 14).

Staffie crosses are not banned breeds but because their head has certain measurements they are classed as a banned breed even though they are good family pets.

The police should go after the aggressive dogs no matter what breed or size they are, most are small fluffy dogs whose owners pick them up to control them instead of training them.

Dogs need training to learn to live in our society, if you can’t train your dog you would be better buying a stuffed dog. I see the heartbreak that the owners of seized dogs go through, they don’t understand why their dog has been seized, their dogs are full members of their family and they are separated from them for many months and in some cases years.

When these dogs go home, most are in a terrible state.

If an owner had a dog in the state these are in they would be prosecuted for neglect but because they are in the care of the police they get away with it.

We need the law changing so that the police leave the good, family pets alone and go for the real aggressive, dangerous dogs.
