PLANS have been submitted to demolish a roller skating rink in the town centre in order to build more than 100 apartments.

Skate Academy on Academy Street could be bulldozed in order to build 144 flats in a nine-storey apartment block on the 614sq m site.

Retail units would also be opened in the ground floor of the building, which would comprise of 24 one-bed and 110 two-bed flats.

Thelwall-based Lane End Developments has submitted an application for planning permission to Warrington Borough Council, with the proposal including 66 car parking spaces.

Skate Academy shut its doors earlier this year having opened in 2010, three years after the building’s previous inhabitants Kwik Save had closed.

A consultation on the plans runs until Thursday, October 12.
