THE town's libraries have been praised after ranking third in the country for completing a national reading challenge.
The Reading Agency charity handed LiveWire, the company which runs the libraries, a gold star award for helping 159 people rediscover a love of books.
Their efforts mean the organisation was named third best out of the 75 authorities involved in the Reading Ahead programme.
Cheryl Siddall, LiveWire’s strategic lead for libraries, said: “This recognition on a national level is testament to the commitment of the staff working in our libraries, who have encouraged and supported more people than ever to complete the challenge.”
Students from Warrington Collegiate and Priestley College as well as inmates at Risley and Thorn Cross prisons took part in the scheme.
Patients at Warrington Hospital, residents at Gainsborough House care home and visitors to Gorse Covert Day Centre also took on the challenge.
