THE town’s creative scene will take centre stage on Friday, September 29, with the launch of Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival (WCAF).

A series of exhibitions and special events will launch with the traditional ‘cultural crawl’ of the venues involved and the announcement of the festival’s open competition winners.

On the day all are welcome for a first glimpse of entries to the art and photography competitions, which will be displayed at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and The Gallery at Bank Quay House until the end of October.

Highlights include a new installation called Echo by Holly Rowan Hesson at the Pyramid.

Holly’s work explores the gap between sensory experience and feelings and rational thought-based experience and memory.

And Ellen Sampson will be looking at how shoes become part of who we are using film and photography with her exhibition, Worn.

Maureen Banner, chairman for Culture Warrington, the charity which organises WCAF, said: “The festival is a major highlight in Culture Warrington’s calendar and a great way for us to come together with our creative community.”

The launch night on Friday, September 29, begins at 6pm in The Gallery at Bank Quay House.
