RESIDENTS are being warned there could be power cuts and damage to trees and buildings this evening as Storm Aileen sweeps in.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of wind as gusts of 55 to 65mph are predicted between 8pm on Tuesday evening and 10am on Wednesday morning.
A spokesman added: "Very strong winds with gusts of 55-65 mph perhaps reaching 75 mph in exposed places, are looking increasingly likely on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
"Longer journey times by road, rail and air are likely, with restrictions on roads and bridges.
"There is also a chance of power cuts and damage to trees and perhaps buildings."
The outlook for later this week is windy with sunny spells and blustery showers on Wednesday with potential thunder and hail.
There will be fewer showers on Thursday with lighter winds and more sunshine on Friday but temperatures will remain cool.
