BUS routes between the town centre and Orford are set to increase in frequency, with residents to be offered discounted fares.

The 20 and 21 services, which operate between Warrington Bus Interchange and Poplars Avenue via the Halliwell Jones Stadium, Orford Jubilee Hub and Warrington Collegiate, will run every 10 minutes during the day from Monday, September 18.

New discounted group travel tickets will also be available on the Pops route, named in homage to Poplars Avenue.

With the new return ticket scheme, two people will be able to travel for a combined £6, three people will ride for £8 and four people will be allowed to use the bus for £10.

Buses operating the Pops route will also be given a makeover.

Ben Wakerley, managing director of Network Warrington, said: “We’re delighted to unveil the new look Pops service, which will make it easier for our customers to get around Orford and its associated stops.

“I am also pleased to introduce more reduced fares in the town, building on our other recent reductions – including the Dallam discount.

“We’ve listened to customer feedback and I’m delighted to say that passengers using the 20 and 21 Pops routes won’t have to wait longer than 10 minutes to catch the bus anymore during the day.

“On average, there will only be a five-minute wait at stops and the new group fares will provide superb value.

“Our customers frequently offer up suggestions on how we can improve our service and we’ve listened to feedback about ticket prices on the bus route.

“Whilst it isn’t feasible for us to discount every route in our operations, we are continuing to look at how we can offer an excellent service at an equally competitive rate and I’m pleased that for the Pops route we can offer these group discounts.”
