SITALEKI Akauola says he is excited by the challenge as he looks forward to joining Warrington Wolves next year.

The 25-year-old, a prop or second rower, has been confirmed as The Wire’s first signing for 2018, joining from NRL side Penrith Panthers on a two-year deal.

Akauola said: “I’m really excited. Joining Warrington is a great challenge for me.

“I’m coming over to England to make an impact and I can’t wait to get started.”

As well as the Panthers, where he played with current Wolves centre Peta Hiku, Akauola has played in the NRL for Wests Tigers and has been capped once by Tonga.

“Playing over in England has always been in the back of my mind but I didn’t think the chance would come as early as it has," he said.

“I haven’t followed how Warrington have been getting on but I know they’ve not done as well as expected this year.

“Being a part of a team that wins a comp is something I’ve always wanted. The possibility of doing that with Warrington excites me and I’m really looking forward to trying.”

Akauola adds much-needed depth to a pack which could be short on numbers when the current season ends.

Andre Savelio is already known to be leaving for Brisbane Broncos, while the futures of Ashton Sims, Ben Westwood and George King are still uncertain with all three players out of contract in the off-season.
