A TEENAGER who swore at police officers during a fight has had his curfew postponed by magistrates so he can go to Leeds Festival this weekend.

The chair magistrate said he 'knows the cost' of tickets and told the 18-year-old he could still go to the three day event.

Evan Thawer, of Frederick Street in Latchford, appeared at Warrington Magistrates' Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to using abusive and threatening words to police in the town centre on August 5.

Prosecuting, Rob Youds said Thawer called the police 'pigs' while they were trying to break up a fight.

He said: "There was a large crowd with a number of males acting aggressively so an officer intervened. They managed to get control. Thawer shouted and swore at them. He was told to leave and warned about his behaviour. He didn't, so he was arrested."

The court heard Thawer has six previous convictions, including a public order offence from May and a burglary offence from August 2016.

Defending, Gary Heaven said: "It requires somebody more creative than me to try and put a positive spin on the lad's behaviour.

"He's got no dog in this fight whatsoever but he sees fit to air his feelings towards the constabulary.

"It's a shame, he's a young man who's working towards qualifications in animal care. He's working, he's not idling his time away - it's all the more frustrating."

Magistrates handed Thawer a community order, £85 costs and a two month curfew from 7am until 7pm.

But Mr Heaven said the teen had brought tickets to the music festival, which starts on Friday, and requested the curfew be delayed.

Magistrates said: "You did buy the tickets before the offence and I do know the cost of them. The curfew will start on Monday.

"You need to keep out of trouble. Your behaviour is not acceptable in society, continue doing it and you will be dealt with more seriously."
