HAVING gone to school and played in the NRL together, it is safe to say Wolves centre Peta Hiku is excited to be reunited with Sitaleki Akauola next season.

The Tongan international is the club’s first new signing for the 2018 season after signing a two-year deal to join from Penrith Panthers.

Hiku was a teammate of Akauola’s at the Panthers, but revealed their relationship went much further back than that.

“We were at school and played local footy together so he’s similar to me,” he said.

“He’s a caring person and a family man, he was always looking after me back at home. He’s one of the nicest people off the field.

“Everyone here at the club will take him in. I’m sure and he’ll get along with all the boys with me being here too.”

The 25-year-old is described as a powerful ball-carrier but will be experiencing life outside the NRL for the first time.

However, Hiku is confident the prop will enjoy his experience.

“I think he’ll add a lot of positives to the team,” he said.

“He’s a really strong carry, very quick and an aggressive player, and will be good for us.

“Knowing the way he’s been brought up, he’ll come over here and enjoy it.”
