MOTORISTS have been warned to expect delays with up to 60,000 revellers set to descend on the town for Creamfields this weekend.

Congestion is expected on the M6 and M56, with the four-day dance music festival being held in Daresbury from 2pm on Thursday to until 11pm on Sunday.

Anyone driving to Creamfields is advised to plan their journey ahead and to use junction 11 of the M56 to access the site.

Use of the M62 is not advised due to continuing works on the Mersey Gateway bridge.

Site car parks open at 12pm on Thursday and close at 2pm on Monday, August 29.

Revellers have also been warned not to walk on the motorways, which police have cited as an issue during previous events.

Additional officers will be deployed in the area to deter this practice.

Chris Chadwick, events planning manager for Highways England, said: “We will be doing all we can to manage traffic around the event and keep drivers on the move.

“Festivalgoers and other drivers can help themselves by planning their journeys and keeping themselves up to date with traffic information.

“We would like to remind everyone that the motorway is no place for pedestrians.

“It is dangerous and illegal to walk along the motorway, and having pedestrians on the network can cause delays for legitimate motorway users.

“Drivers wanting to pick people us should use the dedicated collection points off the motorway network, which will be clearly signed.”
