INSPECTORS have carried out several examinations to determine the cause of mould which has 'ruined' part of a mum-of-two's Orford flat.

Kadie Hughes and her partner Cameron Barber have hit out at Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) due to the state of their flat, on Newhaven Road.

Kadie, 22, who has two children, aged eight weeks old and one year old, said the mould has ruined some furniture in the property – and claims it is now 'infested' with insects.

She added: "The main issue is the mould and damp, which we have had for ages.

"The mould and damp has ruined my carpet.

"And I've got beetles and ants coming out of the skirting boards.

"I clean it as best as I can for the sake of my two babies but no matter what I do they always come back.

"It started with one or two ants in the bathroom but now it is infested and they have also moved to the kitchen and front room.

"I can't sleep at night.

"GGHT have come out to inspect the problem a few times but have not done anything and say it is condensation.

"We have had to live out in my partner's mum's place in Longford.

"It is a disgrace. We want to move but we have rent arrears and don't have the money to pay it.

"We are overcrowded here as we only have one bedroom."

GGHT has responded to Kadie's concerns and continues to offer her advice.

A spokesman said: "GGHT has responded to Ms Hughes' concerns regarding the mould in her property and several inspections and repairs have taken place.

"The outcome of these inspections has confirmed that the mould growth is as a result of condensation and there is no damp or water ingress in the property.

"The property has central heating, double glazing, cavity wall insulation and has been fitted with a positive air ventilation system, which we install to help customers whose homes are prone to condensation.

"Ms Hughes has been given all the suitable advice in how to reduce condensation, such as ventilating her home as much as possible and reducing the amount of moisture in the air by keeping clothes drying indoors to a minimum and cooking and bathing with doors closed.

"Ms Hughes has indicated that she would like to move to a larger home as she has had two children since moving into the one-bed property.

"However, due to the level of her arrears, a transfer would not be allowed until she can demonstrate that she has kept to her payment agreement or reduced her arrears to a level that is in accordance with our transfer policy."
