ISSUES with the 'phasing' of temporary traffic lights at junction eight of the M62 has been the reason for severe delays for motorists in the past week.
Drivers have experienced long delays, with some reporting the congestion adding 45 minutes to their journey.
Major road closures were put in place at the start of the month as part of a multi-million pound project to ease congestion on junction eight in Burtonwood.
Some of the closures will be in place until May but the initiative is aimed to help increase the junction's capacity to support future growth in jobs and houses.
A council spokesman said issues with the temporary traffic lights have been the cause of the problem in the past week.
He confirmed there has been an issue with the 'phasing' of the traffic lights.
He added that the matter has been resolved, although motorists should expect 'occasional delays' around peak time.
