THIS summer's reading challenge for children is roaring into action with plenty of fun activities.

The theme of animal agents means there are loads of opportunities for youngsters to show off their creative talents.

And Padgate Library got in on the action with a wildlife themed craft session.

Teenage volunteer Steph Taylor was on hand to help out and said: "It's just really fun. We create different activities that are not too hard but not too easy and then I help the children. We have made lots of things together, we made hats with bunnies on them."

Steph, 14, is from Cinnamon Brow and said she loves helping out with the Express Art sessions for youngsters aged five to 11.

The King's Leadership Academy student began volunteering as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award.

She added: "I spent six months here shelving and scanning books and helping with the activities.

"I liked it so much that I wanted to carry on.

"We are encouraged to do voluntary work at school and it's good fun, I really like working with other people."
