LEE Briers accepts Wolves will have “a bounty on their head” during their Middle 8s campaign.

As well as Catalans Dragons, Leigh Centurions and Friday’s opponents Widnes Vikings, The Wire will battle with Championship sides Hull KR, London Broncos, Halifax and Featherstone Rovers to retain their Super League status.

Wolves find themselves in a similar situation to last year’s Leeds Rhinos side, who were forced to fight for survival a year after winning all three trophies available in the English game.

Brian McDermott’s side won six of their seven Middle 8s games and Wolves assistant first-team coach Briers hopes his side will be similarly comfortable in the coming weeks.

However, the Wire icon admits the team have “it all to lose.”

“We are going to have a bounty on our head, we have to accept that,” he said.

“Teams are going to think it’s a massive win for them if they can come and knock us off.

“Every game is like a cup final now, we need to be performing and winning.

“The likes of Featherstone, Halifax and London Broncos, even Hull KR to a certain extent, are going to play us with nothing to lose.

“We’ve got it all to lose, so there’s going to be pressure there.”

Bookmakers Betfred, Super League’s main sponsor, are offering odds of 1/66 of Warrington finishing as one of the top three teams in the Middle 8s.

That would mean a guaranteed spot in Super League for next year without the need to play in the Million Pound Game.

However, Briers says his side cannot afford to be complacent and is adamant that “feet are firmly on the ground” throughout the camp.

“We believe we’re strong enough to be comfortable in the Middle 8s but we can’t take that for granted,” he said.

“We’re not going into this thinking we’re better than everybody else and that this will be easy.

“We need to be focused and not allow complacency to come in.

“If the last four training sessions are anything to go by, we’re definitely heading in the right direction in that respect.

“We can only control our preparation and we’ve definitely prepared well.

“Our feet are firmly on the ground. We’re working really hard to finish the season positively.”
