A JUDGE heard that Kerry Katona’s former accountant is continuing to impersonate a lawyer after being charged with seven counts of false representation.

David McHugh, of Ranton, Staffordshire, appeared at Chester Crown Court last Tuesday where he pleaded not guilty to two new counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice after presenting ‘suspicious’ legal certificates to the judge.

The 60-year-old, who previously lived in Winwick, is also charged with five counts of failing to comply with a crime prevention order.

Prosecuting, James Rae said: “He appears to have been in gainful employment running a legal business in Stoke-on-Trent.

“He is continuing to present himself as a member of the legal profession.

“There are concerns about McHugh’s legal aid. His residence is not cheap either.”

McHugh is accused of presenting a number of certificates claiming to be legal qualifications from Rochville University to the court on February 8.

Mr Rae said the documents were available for purchase on the internet.

Judge Roger Dutton added: “I was presented with these documents myself and within moments I had concluded that they were questionable and suspicious.”

A trial has been set for April 2 next year at Chester Crown Court.
