WOOLSTON Rovers head coach John Fieldhouse says Saturday’s clash with Eastmoor Dragons is ‘a four-pointer’ for his side.

Rovers sit fifth in National Conference League Division Three as they prepare to welcome the side directly above them to Monks Sports Club.

The gap between the two sides is currently four points and Fieldhouse says defeat is not an option for his side if they are to maintain their hopes of promotion.

“We are still in a good position in the league table despite losing a couple of silly games,” he said.

“If we are to achieve our aim of moving out of this league, we cannot afford to get beat by one of our close rivals.

“We had an excellent game at their place at the beginning of June but we just came up short and suffered a narrow defeat.

“It really is a ‘four-pointer’ and, with a bit of luck, we should be in a position to welcome back several players from injury and work commitments.

“That will give us a massive boost as we enter a crucial period of games.”

Rovers will be keen to get back into action after Saturday’s game with bottom side Elland was cancelled at the last minute.

Woolston had travelled to Halifax for the game but arrived to find the hosts had just six players.

“Last weekend was a real sickener for the lads,” Fieldhouse said.

“To travel across to Halifax for the game to get cancelled like that is not acceptable but we will have to put that out of our minds.”

Woolston Rovers A also return to action this weekend as they travel to Little Hulton Reds.

“We are under no illusion that this game will be a really tough encounter on their own pitch,” Rovers A joint-coach Andy Penny said.

“They have got an excellent home record but we will just be making sure our own performance is up to the standards that we have set this year.

“We have played some outstanding rugby and the quality in our squad is very high.

“We will be determined to give a complete 80-minute show and come home with another vital two league points.”
