HUNDREDS have signed a petition calling on the council to refuse a licence to host a music event at Victoria Park.

Mike Miller, of Park Avenue, Latchford, launched an online campaign shortly after discovering the plans by SJM.

The music company has requested a seasonal premises licence for May, June, July, August and September.

If the application is approved it would allow the sale of alcohol at the Knutsford Road site as well as live entertainment.

But the company would need to notify the relevant authorities in writing six months prior to the exact event date.

While planning remains in the early stages, it is believed the event could be held over two days during the May bank holiday weekend next year.

But this has not been confirmed by S.J.M LTD.

So far, the online petition has received more than 200 signatures.

It is understood members of the Latchford-based Victoria Park Residents' Association (VIPRA) have collected more than 150 signatures on a separate print-based petition.

Mike said: "There is quite a large number of people who live near to Victoria Park who think it is inappropriate.

"We are encouraging people to have their say to make sure their voices are heard."

Members of the public have until July 27 to submit their views on the application by emailing cexlicensing@warrington.gov.uk or writing to the licensing manager at New Town House, Buttermarket Street, Warrington, WA1 2NH.

Ken Wormald from VIPRA and Mike will be meeting Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid on Monday to discuss the plans.

The licensing meeting is expected to be held in mid August.
