A BUSINESSMAN has climbed 5,000ft to raise more than £1,000 in memory of his dad, who died after suffering a heart attack at the age of 49.

Stuart Robinson covered more than 24 miles as he tackled the three peaks of Yorkshire for the British Heart Foundation on Saturday, July 8.

His dad Harry Robinson, from Orford, died when he was 49 after suffering a heart attack 22 years ago when Stuart was aged 22.

The Padgate resident said: “22 years ago this year I lost my dad at 49 to a heart attack, so the charity is a bit more personal to me.

“My dad was a fit and healthy man – he cycled a lot, he didn’t smoke and he didn’t drink but he passed away at the age of 49.

“He’d suffered with a little bit of angina but even so it was quite a shock, and I was only 22 at the time.

“It shows that it can happen to anyone.”

Stuart, owner and director of Old Road-based PSP Plumbing and Heating Supplies, managed to raise more than £1,000 with his climb of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

The 44-year-old added: “I used to walk when I was younger but I haven’t really done it for years, and the lack of training was proven in the walk itself.

“It was hard work but I managed to do it in just under 10 hours.

“They say you should give yourself 12 to 14 hours to do it, and if you do it in less than 12 it’s an achievement so apparently I did alright, and I’ve managed to raise just over £1,000 so far for the British Heart Foundation so I’m quite pleased with that.

“The first peak, Pen-y-Ghent, was fairly easy and led me into a bit of a false sense of security I think – after that it was all downhill if you’ll excuse the pun.”
