WARRINGTON South MP Faisal Rashid will form part of the House of Commons international trade select committee.

Mr Rashid has been elected to the role by the Labour Party.

Part of the committee's role will be to oversee the operations of the Department for International Trade and its associated public bodies.

Mr Rashid, who formerly worked at NatWest, is vowing to challenge the Government, when required, and scrutinise ministers responsible for key policies.

He said: "It is very important, with Brexit, to have some great deals in place within the international market.

"My business and banking industry experience will enable me to work on the committee to hold this Government to account and to make sure we don't go for a hard Brexit."

Committee positions are due to be finalised this week before the House of Commons formally approves committee membership.

The cross-party group will then begin its work.

The politician has also put the finishing touches to his constituency office at 1 Wilson Patten Street in the town centre.

A launch day for the office will be held on Friday from 10am to 6pm.

Residents are invited to visit throughout the day to meet Mr Rashid and his team, as well as to give their suggestions.

He added: "I have found a constituency office which is right in the middle of the constituency, so there is access for all residents – that was my main task.

"There is also parking available in the town centre for people."
