COSTS for Warrington Borough Council staff to attend an awards night last month totalled £811.

The Municipal Journal Local Government Achievement Awards took place in London on June 15.

The council was one of five local authorities shortlisted in the 'innovation in finance' category.

The authority has confirmed the costs for its staff to attend the event came to £811 – it was made up of £414 for staff time, £218 for hotel accommodation, £167.80 for travel and £12 for car parking.

Three council employees attended the awards dinner.

The £414 sum for staff time represents 'the combined value of their time away from their day to day roles' – although one employee was able to continue working while travelling.

The council failed to win an award but a spokesman said the authority was 'proud to have been shortlisted'.

He added: "The awards celebrate the best of local government and Warrington aspires to be among the best for the benefit of residents."

The presentation ceremony at the event also raised money for charity Action for Children.
