DRIVERS are needed to help get a community minibus up and running.

The team behind Neighbour Favour, who operate in Burtonwood and Winwick, have secured the use of a minibus from another community group on a Thursday and Friday.

Cllr Cathy Mitchell (Burtonwood and Winwick- LAB) welcomed the news of the not-for-profit service.

She said: “It is very much needed.

“It is really going to help older people who may be dealing with social isolation but also younger people who may need help getting to work.”

Volunteers who wish to help need to have a clean driving licence.

Those who passed their driving test before January 1997 will be able to drive a minibus without needing an additional driving test.

Anyone who passed a car-driving test on or after January 1997 will not have category D1 on their licence.

This is the category required to legally drive a minibus on the public highway.

While prices have not been confirmed, it is understood return journeys in Burtonwood and Winwick could cost £1.

Those wishing to travel within Warrington could be charged £2 for a return journey.

Neighbour Favour operates throughout Burtonwood and Winwick with the aim of connecting neighbours.

Residents in those areas can request support with any task they are unable to complete alone or offer their time, skills or facilities to help those in need.
