THOUSANDS of people descended on the town centre this morning to show their support for Warrington Walking Day 2017.

A total of 28 schools and churches gathered together to take part in the annual procession.

Crowds started to congregate on the lawn in front of the Town Hall at around 10am.

The procession started at around 10.30am.

The tradition of Warrington Walking Day brings back fond memories for The Mayor of Warrington cllr Les Morgan.

He said: "It's a tradition which has been going for more than 100 years.

"As a child I used to walk with the cubs and scouts with St Ann's Church and with the choir too.

"I'm really looking forward to the day and hope everything goes well for everyone and the weather is kind to us."

Our photographers have captured some of the highlights from the day with more coverage to be published in next week's Warrington Guardian - on sale on Thursday.
