A MUM was dragged to the floor in a 'vicious attack' by a man while she walked along Manchester Road with her child.

Officers are investigating an attempted robbery after the 46-year-old woman was attacked at 4.30pm yesterday, Tuesday.

Police say the victim was approached by a man on a mountain bike who tried to snatch her bag near to Warrington Cemetery in Fairfield.

The man then assaulted the woman, dragging her to the floor before making off empty handed.

The suspect is described as white, of stocky build, 6ft 1ins and is believed to be aged between 28 and 30.

He was clean shaven with a fair complexion and sunburnt cheeks as well as having a large pointy nose.

The suspect was wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a black waterproof jacket.

DS Dave Aspinall, of Warrington CID, said: “Although these incidents are very rare, this was a vicious attack on a woman who was with her young child.

"I would urge anyone who may have seen anyone matching the man’s description or who has any information to contact officers.”
