POLICE were called to Kingsway Bridge on Sunday morning over fears a man was armed with a weapon.
But following enquiries it turns out the man just needed to go undercover.
Officers were deployed to the bridge at 1.20am following multiple reports from concerned members of the public who believed that they had seen a man armed with a rifle or machete.
Police attended and Kingsway Bridge was temporarily closed to pedestrians and vehicles as a precautionary measure.
After speaking to the man it was established that he was in fact carrying an umbrella.
Following the incident officers remained in the area to provide reassurance to people who were taking part in the nearby St Rocco's Starlight Ladies Walk.
It is understood those taking part in the charity walk were briefly stopped while investigations were carried out.
