A TOWN centre pub has raised more than £1,000 for the family of a regular who died on his way to a Warrington Wolves match.

Wire super fan Mike Naylor died after collapsing in the Looking Glass pub on Buttermarket Street, hours before he was due to watch Warrington Wolves play at Castleford Tigers on Sunday, June 11.

A regular at the King’s Head, the Winwick Street pub held a bucket collection in memory of 52-year-old Mike on the day of Warrington Wolves’ Challenge Cup Quarter Final clash with Wigan Warriors on Saturday, June 17.

Around £1,250 was raised and will be donated to the Padgate resident’s family.

The pub stood and applauded for Mike on the 52nd minute of the game in line with tributes that took place simultaneously in the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

King’s Head landlord Andrew Fannon said: “Mike used to come into the pub during match days and lived and breathed for Warrington Wolves – we were very saddened to hear about his sudden death.

“He was a really nice bloke and it was certainly a shock when we heard what had happened, so everyone jumped into action straight away for him – it was spontaneous really.

“It was very emotional because in the stadium they stood up and clapped for him on the 52nd minute of the game, but the pub was also quite full during the game and everybody in the pub stood up and clapped for him as well.

“The money will go to his family and they can use it or donate it as they see fit.

“We just wanted to help in case they needed help and to show how well thought of he was.”
