TWO lanes of the M6 were closed this morning due to a car fire.

The blaze, between junction 20 at Lymm and junction 19 at Knutsford, shut two lanes of the southbound carriageway.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 10.15am, with Highways England reporting that congestion was ‘building rapidly’.

‘Severe’ tailbacks had already been reported back to junction 19 on the M6 southbound after two lanes were closed due to a crash near Sandbach.

Traffic is still queuing back to junction 21 at Woolston but should ease in the near future.
