DON'T fancy swapping four wheels for two feet for our #WalkitWednesday campaign? Then what about switching to two wheels instead.

Across Warrington, an increasing number of families are leaving their cars at home and young children are opting to travel to school on their scooter instead.

The rise in popularity is largely down to Warrington Borough Council's scooter training days which Lesley Paterson started a year ago to ease congestion and help youngsters enjoy at least 60 minutes of activity every day.

The school travel adviser added: "Like many schools, it started with concerns about parking issues outside school and we wanted to alleviate that while also getting children to travel more actively.

"The feedback has been fantastic so far and the children love it.

"It's great for young children as they can go on the pavement and it's easy for parents to take them home with them.

"And there's so many benefits as it encourages a healthy lifestyle, cuts congestion outside school and it's good for the parents to make that journey with them too."

The training day teaches pupils how to travel on their scooter to school safely including looking out for cars pulling out of driveways and how to cross roads safely.

More than 315 pupils had the training last week alone with three more schools already booked in for September.

Our #WalkitWednesday campaign began in the Spring as we call on more readers to leave their car at home and walk to work or school instead this summer.
