AN AUTISTIC young man has been making bird boxes to raise money for charity.

Neil Burton, from the town centre, has been making and selling bird boxes and donating the profits to North West Cancer Research.

The 25-year-old, who likes to be called Satsuma Peel, started making the boxes as a way to raise money for his holidays but has raised more than £100 since he turned his attention to charity.

He is now planning on making 10 bird boxes per month from scratch using recycled wood with support worker Graham Kay at Tailored Support Solutions Warrington’s workshop and donating the proceeds to a different charity every month.

Neil said: “I suffer from autism but my condition has not stopped me from trying to be a valued member of the community.

“Let’s make the world a better place together.”

Neil, who has previously volunteered with the British Heart Foundation and Cats Protection, was invited down to North West Cancer Research’s laboratories at the University of Liverpool as thanks for his work.

Charity fundraising manager Bobby Magee said: “On behalf of everyone at the charity I would like to say a massive thank you to Neil for all his fundraising efforts.

“His bird boxes are great, very profession and would be a great addition to anyone’s garden.

“Funding for research is an important part of the fight against cancer and thanks to generous people like Neil we are able to continue funding lifesaving research right here in the north west.”
