IT has been a ‘crazy’ couple of days for the staff at Rigby’s Finest Fresh Foods after they threw open the doors of their new store on Sankey Street.

The greengrocers welcomed 850 customers during the first full day of trading yesterday, Thursday.

And the delighted staff are looking forward to a bustling weekend in their new shop.

Angela Pennington worked on Mottershead’s cheese stall in the market for four years before the business teamed up with Rigby’s to open a counter in the new store.

She said: “We have all moved in here together and we did expect to hopefully be busy but we didn’t realise it would be this busy. Everybody’s been saying how nice the shop looks.”

Andrea Norman from Mottersheads added: “It’s crazy at the moment, it’s lovely to have more people around and the shop looks so fresh.”

Some of the stores most unusual products include rainbow roses, fresh tamarind and toffee vodka.

And customers can also grab a fresh coffee, smoothie or even a vanilla cone from the new ice cream machine.

Owner Ray Rigby, who has been in the business for 42 years, said: “We didn’t expect to have so many people coming through the doors just after we opened, it’s been mad.

“Everything’s brand new and all the customers are made up with it, people have been stopping me in the street to talk about it. Everyone seems dead happy and a lot of people have followed us over from the market.”
