CHILDREN from Dolly’s Sewing School have spent the past six months creating a patchwork quilt which will be raffled to raise money for St Rocco’s Hospice.

The project was launched in memory of 53-year-old Julie Shaw, who was a friend of Dolly’s owner Linsey Williams and who was cared for at the hospice before her death in January.

Linsey said: “Julie was such a character, we have a picture of her in the shop under the clock because she was never on time. All the students ask about her, they are intrigued by the photo because she has no hair.

“She put up a flaming good fight against the cancer and would have been really made up that we have created this in her memory.

“She was into her crafts and I have inherited about 65 of her unfinished projects, it’s nice to have things she has made.

“About 21 children have helped with this project and they are all such sweet little sewers.”

Youngsters aged between six and 10 worked on the quilt which is set to be raffled off on August 1.

Tickets cost £1 per strip and can be brought from the school on Academy Place or visit facebook.com/DollySews for information.
