WARRINGTON South MP Faisal Rashid admits he had to 'pinch himself' after his dream came true when he endured an emotional first day in Parliament.

The Labour politician made his way to the House of Commons last Tuesday for his first day in Parliament as speaker John Bercow was re-elected.

A day later he was sworn into office to officially get his spot on the green benches in the house.

Mr Rashid labelled the past week as a 'rollercoaster'.

He said: "Trying to find different venues in Parliament itself is a real challenge and then remembering the names of so many new MPs.

"I must confess I had tears in my eyes when we were electing the speaker.

"This was first time I have seen the full house and politicians normally we see on TV were all around and passing by.

"When I used to see them on TV I wished I could have a picture with them and now they were congratulating me for a great win in Warrington South.

"It was very emotional and at times felt like a dream and I pinched myself.

"In the parliamentary Labour Party meeting the room was packed and Warrington South was mentioned.

"Jeremy was great as usual, the party was united and the atmosphere was great and positive.

"As you would expect, I have been very emotional about being elected as MP.

"From being selected as the Labour Party candidate for Warrington South until being elected as MP for my hometown, the experience was truly amazing.

"I assure all constituents that I will work tirelessly on their behalf regardless of party, religion, politics gender or creed.

"I know that the challenges ahead of us are enormous but I look forward to addressing them together.

"I will always make sure I put Warrington South first."

On Wednesday, Mr Rashid returned to Westminster for the Queen's speech and state opening of Parliament.

But, despite his elation since election glory on June 8, it has proved to be bittersweet for the town's former mayor after he had his resignation to NatWest accepted.

Mr Rashid added: "I was sitting on the House of Commons terrace looking at the River Thames and writing my resignation to work.

"It was a very sad moment as I have worked for NatWest for over 11 years and loved every part of my job, helping small businesses and making their dreams come true.

"I have always worked hard with dedication and devotion.

"I am leaving my job to start a new commitment where I will be able to make a real difference in so many people's lives."

Mr Rashid confirmed he will have an open day at his constituency office when it opens at a 'central location' in Warrington South next month.
