EVERLASTING sunflowers have been planted outside the Town Hall as part of a St Rocco’s appeal.

The flowers, each of which has been dedicated to a lost loved one, will have pride of place behind the golden gates for the next two weeks.

The Mayor, Cllr Les Morgan, and Penketh High School students helped St Rocco’s volunteer Margaret Wilkinson plant the flowers.

Sunflowers are close to Margaret’s heart as they were her daughter Johanne’s favourite flower and the keen gardener grows them every year in memory of the 26-year-old.

Johanne’s niece, two-year-old Erin, and her family also came along to help with the planting.

There is still time to support the charity project.

Margaret said: “By dedicating your St Rocco’s sunflower you will be helping to ensure that others who find themselves in a similar situation to our family will be able to turn to St Rocco’s for help when they need it most.”

Michaela Levitt, learning mentor at Penketh High, added: “The students have really enjoyed the morning and especially being able to help with something so positive.”

The display runs until June 11, after which the sunflowers can be collected.
