FIRE crews were called after a wheelie bin was set on fire in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters attended to tackle the blaze on Cartwright Street, near the town centre just after 3am.

One fire engine from Warrington and one from Stockton Heath attended.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are appealing for anyone with information to call police.

A statement on the service's website said: "Firefighters tackled a fire involving a wheelie bin which was against a house wall.

"A hose reel jet was used to put out the fire which is believed to have been started deliberately.

"Anyone with any information about this or similar incidents is urged to call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or Cheshire Police on 101.

"Arson costs lives."
