CHAPELFORD is set to be in full bloom this summer after councillors secured funding for flowers to be planted on roundabouts and roadsides.

Chapelford and Old Hall councillors Faisal Rashid, Steve Parish and Rebecca Knowles have been working on the project after residents asked for more flowerbeds to be created in their ward.

The councillors secured grant funding for the project, which has cost several thousand pounds, from Great Sankey Parish Council and other sources.

Planting has now begun in Chapelford, Westbrook and along Cromwell Avenue.

Cllr Rashid said: “It’s going to be a really good project.

“There were tulips and white flowers at Thatched Cottage roundabout and I had so many messages saying it looked beautiful.

“I made a commitment to residents to take the plans forward.

“We all worked together on this to get funding.”

Councillors have also secured enough money for flowers to be planted next year if the project is a success.

Cllr Rashid added that most of the flowers will be white or wildflowers and there will be no tulips as they are very expensive.

The flowers are expected to start blooming in the next few weeks.

He added: “Our area will look beautiful, we are all committed to our ward. It is something we thought would make our neighbourhood look better and distinguish it from other areas.

“We are proud of where we live and want to support our local community.”

Councillors hope the project, which will cover the whole ward, will make the neighbourhood look ‘cheerful’ for residents.
